(Hopefully, I gave you enough clues that you know what John's reaction was to the visit *g* - but one day, I might write another fic from his POV).
The Hoot Gibson reference is actually a shout-out to a Hoot/Eversmann fic series I wrote a few years back. *g* In it, Hoot is from Pikesville & Eversmann sort of winds up moving in with him. I'm thrilled that you picked up on it. :)
