A handshake might've worked, yes, but I don't think Ev could have let go of his boonie long enough to do it. *g* And I do really think this is before "Aftermath" -- Ev, caught in the adrenaline before the reality's set in, before he's really thought about Jamie dying and Blackburn getting injured and how fucked up it all got. Once he's had some down time, it all comes crashing down & voila, Hoot's back to help him through it.
(And one day, I'm going to give that Hoot & that Eversmann an actual sex scene, so help me God, even if it's a PWP. They deserve it. *g*)
