Brenda, This is written so very heartfelt that I hesitate to say it's cute.
But it's cute.
The old pro, just doin' his job, and idealistic, earnest, very young still Eversmann make for an endearing turn of conversation. The only bit I would have added was a handshake. Guys are funny in HOW they touch but they touch each other's heads and shake hands constantly. Check out BHD - more handshakes than salutes! And oh, Jeff's thought about Hoot needing luck to take this one on, Mr. Perceptive strikes again. Tone-wise, it's not as grim as Aftermath, it feels more like a sequel and not a prequel, Matt is a lot more... relaxed. Hoot was thorough.
