Why would you dislike him? I mean, yes, his character got utterly assassinated in the 3rd season, but I've always seen him as someone who did what he thought was best in the name of protecting his kids. Which is pretty hot. *g*
And Dean & Sam clearly are lost without him, which speaks volumes about the positive impact he had on raising them. No, it wasn't conventional, but then, they wouldn't be the Winchesters if they were. *g*
